Team Activities

Volleyball

California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) is a great organization to become a member of and get out and play beach volleyball. You will need to have a partner to register for tournaments, but if you and a friend would like to compete, the membership fee is just $25 for the year (Jan 1 – Dec 31). If you have never played beach volleyball before and would like to take a class, Sinjin Smith and Randy Stoklos have Beach Volleyball Camps for Adults at the Santa Monica Annenberg House on PCH.

Sand Soccer

Sand soccer is a great activity that provides fun, team play, friendship and healthy competition on the sand. Enjoying a good game by the ocean is the essence of sand soccer. In addition to offering tournaments to compete in, some of the clubs offer clinics as well to help you master the game.

Individual Activities

Yoga

Yoga – is a great way to build strength and flexibility in your body, become more relaxed through breathing, and feel more spiritual communing with the natural beauty of doing the yoga poses or positions on the sand and next to the waves on the beach. There are plenty of Yoga Studios in the southern California area, but finding a class on the beach takes it to a new level. Many of these classes are donation based (Suggested donations are either posted on their website or information is provided at the beach.). Many of these classes are offered in the late mornings or early evenings at the beach when it the temperature is a little cooler.

Paddling out on the ocean waves with the marine animals and the surf can make for a great day that is a magical getaway. Rentals can be found at most beach locations, especially where there are boat rentals or stand up paddleboard rentals such as Marina Del Rey, Newport Beach, or Mission Bay.

If you are not familiar with kayaking, there are lessons from most places that rent kayaks. They will teach you about the gear, paddling strokes, what to do when you capsize, exiting the kayak when in water, and additional practice in winds, waves, and currents.
