Team Activities

California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) is a great organization to become a member of and get out and play beach volleyball. You will need to have a partner to register for tournaments, but if you and a friend would like to compete, the membership fee is just $25 for the year (Jan 1 – Dec 31). If you have never played beach volleyball before and would like to take a class, Sinjin Smith and Randy Stoklos have Beach Volleyball Camps for Adults at the Santa Monica Annenberg House on PCH.

Many of these classes are donation based (Suggested donations are either posted on their website or information is provided at the beach.). Paddling in a kayak on the ocean can be a wonderful experience. Getting out in the water can be liberating and peaceful. Paddling out on the ocean waves with the marine animals and the surf can make for a great day that is a magical getaway. Rentals can be found at most beach locations, especially where there are boat rentals or stand up paddleboard rentals such as Marina Del Rey, Newport Beach, or Mission Bay.

If you are not familiar with kayaking, there are lessons from most places that rent kayaks. They will teach you about the gear, paddling strokes, what to do when you capsize, exiting the kayak when in water, and additional practice in winds, waves, and currents.

Classes can be found at:
Southwind Kayak Center – Newport Beach
